Looking for Lentil Soup

I know it's really Fall because now I'm craving lentil soup. From organic vegetarian to meat-based and hearty, I want to know YOUR favorite lentil soup recipe. Please send them my way! I'll try them all (much to my family's horror, I'm sure).

You are not going to believe this but what I think is the best recipe for Lentil Soup came from an old Betty Crocker cookbook that I got in the late 70s/early 80s.

I don't remember the exact amounts but you sautee chopped carrots, onions, celery, and bacon together and then add the lentils (1 cup?) and chix broth (a quart?). Towards the end of cooking (15/20 minutes) you add a drained can of diced tomatoes (I get whole and break them up myself - you can use a small can or large depending on how much you like tomato.) Season with salt & pepper. You can add herbs too (they may be in the recipe but I've forgotten that.)

There is a really good recipe for "Lentil Stew" in Verdure by Evan Kleinman and Viviana LaPlace.
